Review of the Southwest Monsoon 2024

RIMES will be organizing a special session to review the performance of the Southwest Monsoon 2024 over the South Asia Region, back-to-back with the weekly SAHF Forecasters’ Forum.
The review aims to:
- Analyze the performance of Southwest Monsoon 2024 and its associated extremes
- Evaluate the usefulness of regionally-available products in the detection and early warning of monsoon-associated extremes
Featured Scientist: Professor Vimal Mishra

Prof. Mishra is a renowned expert in hydroclimatic extremes and a Vikram Sarabhai Chair Professor at IIT Gandhinagar. His pioneering research on climate change, water resources, and extreme weather events has shaped policy and scientific discourse. A key contributor to IPCC AR6 and India’s Climate Change Agenda: 2030, he is a fellow of AGU, IASC, NASI, and IMS.
His work, published in leading journals like Nature Climate Change and PNAS, has earned him multiple awards and recognition, including the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (2022). He currently serves as an editor for Earth’s Future with AGU.
